Not only in the anime, but in the manga and video games also there the digital world has to be protected and in many cases even from the destruction. But there is one difference: All digital worlds look different in their structure and landscapes.

The Digital World in the first season of the anime is simple and while there are only File Island and the continent of Server, File Island is the origin of all digital life and there are mostly weaker Digimon. The island is completely surrounded by the sea and is parted in several areas such as iceland, a forest and so on. On the continent of Server, which is incredibly huge, there are many strong and cunning Digimon, making others life difficult. When the Chosen Ones reach a _ cave here_ they find out what it is all about the Digital World, they were speechless. Indeed, one of them puts the networks of both worlds exactly on top of each other, they see that the worlds are identical. This means that there is no remote dimension, but a world very close to the real world.
After the 4 Dark Masters emerge, the Digital World changes. Some places are now somewhere else and there are new additions to the list. It was also divided in four major areas: forests, seas and lakes, cities, darkness. Each area belongs to one of the Dark Masters and the data were more or less cleared if one of them was destroyed. When all of the Dark Masters were defeated, the Digital World looks liek a piece of cheese and right after the final battle with Apocalymon a whole new Digital World was rebuild again by itself.

The Season "Digimon Adventure 02" has a reference to the first season, but is not necessarily the same Digital World as they had been left behind. There are still places like Digitamamon's restaurant, but there were also a lot of new ones. Especially, new cities, such as a China Town district, where shops and restaurants exists. In addition, the balance between the Digital World and real world ist guaranted by the 7 Sacred Stones. With this new development of this world there appears gates right to the real world. If you have a Digivice you are able to open this gate anytime.
At the beginning of the season the Digimon Kaiser tries to build Black Towers in the Digital World in order to bring Digimon under his control. When he was defeated and Ken went alongside with the Digidestined, Arukenimon and Mummymon appeared using BlackWargreymon, a Digimon created out of 100 Black Towers, to destroy the 7 Sacred Stones and therefore the Digital World. In order to reach this aim at the end, MaloMyotismon appeared in another foreign world, where he wanted to fuse the Digital World and the real world. That was all prevented by the Chosen Ones from all over the world and with Oikawas immolation the destroyed and devastated digital world was shining in a new and bright light and it bloomed again in a new gloss.

In this completely new Digimon season, having no relation to the previously two, a new Digital World has been created. In this first season it will be explained how the World and the Digimon emerged. What is special about the new world is that it is parted in different layers. At the top of the sky you can see the real world and the first layer is a single desolate landscape, where only rocks and dust exists. This is followed by many small worlds, to where you can get by a data stream. Each of them is completely different and adjusted to the Digimon living there.
This is followed by the level of the 4 Sovereign paying attention to the order and peace in the Digital World. In the middle of their level is a deep hole leading to the prison of the Digi-Entelelchie, the Light of Digivolution (Calumon). Below the data-deleting program D-Reaper is sleeping. Cities like in our world do not exist, but many Digimon villages. The transition between day and night happens in less than a second and before you know it is night or day. You can also see this Digiworld is made of data since data packages are flying there for example, remebering of an old Western movie. There are no gates to this world, because they are only opened for a short period of time for the Digimon switching between the worlds. Guilmon only has managed to create a gate in his hiding place which is always open.

The Digital World in Frontier is divided into ten regions and each represents one of the ten elements: fire, water, wind, thunder, ice, wood, earth, steel, darkness and light. Moreover, all of these areas are connected by one station each, and many interconnected rails run through the entire Digital World. The world consists of D-codes. This is data that contains information about the area from which they are comming from. It can also be data of rocks, rivers, and also of Digimon.
The Digiworld is encircled by three moons, and they bear the names of the three Digi-Angels. The blue one is the Seraphimoon, the yellow Orphanimoon and red one bears the name Cherubimoon.The Seraphimoon is inhabited by Starmon, Meteormon and Burgermon. The Cherubimoon on the other hand, is a moon, on which the Digimon hatch from Digi-eggs and Digimon whose data have been scanned, can also be reborn here.
A long time ago there was a war between H-Hybrid Digimon and B-Hybrid-Digimon and this war has left its marks in this world. The Digi-Angel Lucemon ended the war and brought back peace. However, Lucemon greeded for power and only the ten legendary Digimon Warriors could stop and banish the Digimon into the Dark Zone, which lies deep in the Digital World.

The real world and Digital Worl are two different worlds that were previously not connected. But after a long time the barrier separating these two worlds gets weaker and Digimon are able to get to the real world. Digital Gates emerge for a short time in various locations. Such a digital gate is located in the Palace of Mercurimon and this gate is almost permanently opened, as it already exists a very long time.
In addition, there are also various areas like in the real world. There are icy mountain peaks and dusty deserts. However, there are strange places too. So skyscrapers are standing horizontally on walls in a canyon or an ice palace in the middle of a green meadow. The Digital World is emerged, as in some other seasons too, through the ever-growing network of the real world.
The Digital World is governed by Yggdrasil, the god of this world and under this God, the Royal Knights are standing and serving him. They do what they believe is the right thing.
