Digivolution is a word made up by Digimon and Evolution and this term as well is used to describe the act of evolving. When a Digimon evolves into a stronger Digimon, it is labeled as Digitation in German, Evolution in English and Shinka in Japanese.

Level
Because Digimon live in the Datanetwork of humans, they can absorb more Data to become stronger at least. When enough Data have been collected, the Digimon digivolves. It then changes in shape, attacks and miscellaneous tees. Only the awareness stays the same. Overall there are 6 basic Digivolution Levels after a Digimon is hatched from an Digi Egg.
- Baby (JP: Younenki I, Baby 1)
- Training (JP: Younenki II, Baby 2, DE: Ausbildung)
- Rookie (JP: Seichouki, Child)
- Champion (JP: Seijukuki, Adult)
- Ultimate (JP: Kanzentai, Perfect, DE: Ultra)
- Mega (JP: Kyuukyokutai, Ultimate)
Apart from that, there are some special Level, which a Digimon can reach.
- Armor: The Armor Level is round about between Rookie and Champion Level. So that an Digimon can reach this Level, it needs the power of the so called Digi Armor Eggs.
Every Armor Egg is unique and there are 12 of them.
2 of them are golden Armor Eggs, these grant the Digimon a power that is located between Champion and Ultimate Level.
- H-Hybrid: The H-Hybrid Level is about the same with the Champion Level. The H stands for human, what means this Digivolution leads to a human like being (human type Digimon). To gain this Level, you need one of the ten Legendary Warrior's Spirits. It is furthermore possible for humans and Digimon to digivolve with it.
- B-Hybrid: The B-Hybrid Level is about the same, with the Ultimate Level. The B stands for beast, what means this Digivolution leads to a beast like being (beast type Digimon). To gain this Level you need one of the ten Legendary Warrior's Spirits. It is, furthermore possible for humans and Digimon to digivolve with it.
- A-Hybrid: The A stands for Advance. To do this Digivolution, H-Spirit and B-Spirit of one Element are combined used.
- Z-Hybrid: The Z-Hybrid Level is about the same, with the Mega Level. The Z stands for Zeta and the Level can be gained, when 5 of 10 Spiritcouples are used together.
- U-Hybrid: The U-Hybrid Level is beyond the Mega Level. The U stands for Ultimate and the Level can be gained, when all 10 Spiritcouples are combine used. The only Digimon on this Level is Susanoomon.
- Cross-DNA Mega: This Mega Level is equally powerful like the normal. The Level can only be reached, when a Digimon has a human partner. Because of it he can only then fuse with the partner, when both are made up of Data.
- Burst Mode: The Burst Mode is the Level, that lies beyond the Mega Level. It is similar to a Mode Change. So, Digimon change they Shape only a bit, but they power gets boosted multiple times.
- Super Ultimate: It is a Level, that is above the Mega Level and so far only a few Digimon have reached it. These Digimon are always labeled as Mega Digimon.
Types of Digivolutions
Digimon Adventure
- Digivolution (Shinka): When Digimon collect enough Data, they digivolve. This can happen with a Digivice as well. While on the Champion Level, they maintain it as long, as there is Energy left.

- Dark Digivolution: This Digivolution can practically be executed on every Level. There the negative feelings of the human partner, like anger or the urge to reach the next Digivolution Level, effect the Digimon and it digivoles to a malicious Digimon of the next higher Level. It then has always the Type Virus. A further characteristic of so digivolved Digimon is that they cannot be controlled and they destroy everything until they run out of energy. Afterwards they digivolve to a very early Level like the Training Level.

- Ultimate Digivolution / Matrix Evolution (Chō Shinka): At this Digivolution a Champion Digimon digivolves to the Ultimate Level. But also a Digimon of the Rookie Level can directly digivolve to the Ultimate Level.

Digimon Movie: Our Wargame
- Warp DNA Digivolution: So far, this Digivolution only happened a single time. When Agumon and Gabumon digivolve directly into Omnimon, to fight against Diaboromon.
Digimon Adventure 02- Armor Digivolution (Ama Shinka): There is one of the 12 Digi Armor Eggs needed, for this Digivolution, all of them represent an idea or attribute. Those are: courage, friendship, love, sincerity, knowledge, hope, light, miracle, destiny and darkness. The Armor Eggs of Miracle and Destiny are made of pure gold and the one of Darkness only appears in the official cardgame. The human partner is calling it up, by yelling: "Digi Armor energize!" (Digimental up!).
- DNA Digivolution(Joguresu Shinka): This Digivolution fuses two Digimon of the same Level to one of the next Level. The appearance of the DNA digivoled Digimon is made up by parts of the fused Digimon. Despite the one body they share 2 Souls, which act totally identical and completive.
- Mega Digivolution (Kyuukyoku Shinka): In Adventure 02 this Digivolution was executed only by Paildramon to digitvolve to Imperialdramon.
- Mode Change: This labels the Digivolution, where a Digimon digivolves to another version of his current Digivolution.
Digimon Tamers
- Tamer Matrix Digitation: In this case a Digimon digivolves together with his Tamer. It is just like a Warp DNA Digivolution, except for the second Digimon, which swapped place with a human here. On this way they both reach the Mega Level with one Body and two Souls. They know what each other thoughts and can feel what each other is feeling.
- Shining Evolution: When Calumon freed all of its power at the same time it triggers every Digimon in the Digiworld (except for the Tamers) to digivolve to the Mega Level.
Digimon Frontier
- Spirit Evolution: A simple Digivolution with a H-Spirit or B-Spirit.
- Slide Evolution: You change from your H-Hybrid to B-Hybrid respectively vice versa.
- Double Spirit Evolution: A Digivolution, where the H-Spirit and B-Spirit of the respectively element are combine used.
- Hyper Spirit Evolution: Here are five of ten Spiritcouples used to digivolve.
- Ancient Spirit Evolution: In order to digivolve all ten Spiritcouples are needed. The outcoming Digimon is Susanoomon.
Digimon Savers
- Pseudo Digivolution: A Digivolution where a artificial created Digimon digivolve with an artificial created DigiSoul.
- Hyper Bio Digivolution: By Gizmon collected Data is injected in humans and when the human releases his DigiSoul he becomes a Digimon. Is this Digivolution drained a Digi Egg is leaving the human body and that human cannot digivolve the same way again. Until now, only Data of Armor Digimon have been used and the humans digivolving to a Digimon had been about the Ultimate Level.
- Hyper Bio Extra Digivolution: By Gizmon collected Data is injected in humans and when the human releases his DigiSoul he becomes a Digimon. Is this Digivolution drained a Digi Egg is leaving the human body and that human can not digivolve the same way again. Until now, only Data of stronger Digimon have been used and the humans digivolving to a Digimon, could not control the Powers.
- Burst Digivolution: Similar to a Mode Change, that leads to a Digivolution, later the Digimon is stronger then a Digimon of the Mega Level.
Digitationen in Videospielen
- Thrust Digivolution: As yet this Digivolution can only be found in Digimon World (200)3. When the Thrust Meter fills totally up in a fight the Digimon digivolves directly to his next Level. The final Attack can be used unlimited times, because the MP is almost full in this state. However this Level is very instable and can revert at any time.
