Tags are worn around the necks and they keep one Crest each. The crests get themselves directly to the small Tags when the Tag is near of the Crest. The Tags were originally given to Devimon to take care of them.
Appearance: Episode 14: Departure for a new Continent
When the DigiDestined help Whamon to remove the Black Gear, it brings them to the place where the Tags are hidden.

 Crest of Courage

Owner: Tai
Digivolution: Greymon to MetalGreymon
Appearance: Episode 15, The dark Network of Etemon; Tai finds it in a cave near the village of Koromon
Activation: Episode 20, The Earthquake of MetalGreymon; Tai tries to free Sora from Datamon, but he must pass an electric fence first. He knows if he does not take the correct position, he is dead so he takes all the courage he has, goes through the fence and its crest begins to glow. Later in the battle with Etemon Greymon evolves to MetalGreymon.
Meaning: The sun ... in Buddhism this symbol stands for the return to Earth. It is always engraved on the coffins of the dead. It stands also for the courage to stand up to the death. The color orange also supports the features yet, because it symbolizes strength and courage.

 Crest of Friendship

Owner: Matt
Digivolution: Garurumon to WereGarurumon
Appearance: Episode 18, The Piximon Cometh; to a fountain in the desert Matt is led by his tag to the crest
Activation: Episode 23, WereGarurumon's Diner; One day Matt finds Joe working in a restaurant because of debts. He helps him, but when everything goes totally wrong Joe is attacked by Digitamamon and Vegimon, the Crest of Friendship glows so Garurumon evolves to WereGarurumon and defeats Digitamamon.
Meaning: The Ying-Yang symbol ... stands for the inner balance of the soul. It shows that every person has two sides that are neither fully light nor completely dark. The two prongs are arrows, which symbolize a search here. The two different directions show that it isn't so easy to reach his goal and to find his determination and that it may take longer.

 Crest of Love

Owner: Sora
Digivolution: Birdramon to Garudamon
Appearance: Episode 20, The Earthquake of MetalGreymon; Datamon was in possession of the Crest
Activation: Episode 26, Sora's Crest of Love; DemiDevimon tells Sora that she can never love, because she was never loved by others. This is also the reason why her Crest has never been glowed. She believes in what the Digimon says because she thinks that her mother never really loved her. In the struggle with Myotismon she recognizes the opposite effect and can lead Birdramon to the next upper Level Garudamon.
Meaning: The Heart ... symbolizes love as it was since the beginning of time. This meaning is underlined by the color red, which also stands for love.

 Crest of Reliability

Owner: Joe
Digivolution: Ikkakumon to Zudomon
Appearance: Episode 16, The Arrival of SkullGreymon; He finds it under a stone in the Colosseum
Activation: Episode 36, City under Siege; Joe and TK are riding on Ikkakumon's back to the mainland where the other are fighting against Myotismon. But MegaSeadramon appears and the two plunge into the water. Joe helps T.K. by providing him with a little piece of wood. He sinks deeper and deeper but due to his reliability Ikkakumon evolves to Zudomon and saves Joe.
Meaning: The Cross ... stands for a promise and the trust that we hold others. It symbolizes the knowledge that the person who gives the promise keeps the promise, too.

 Crest of Sincerity
|
Owner: Mimi
Digivolution: Togemon to Lillymon
Appearance: Episode 17, The Crest of Sincerity; The children reach a huge cactus after the cruise on Kokatorimon ship, a flower appears on top of the cactus revealing the Crest
Activation: Episode 35, Flower Power; Mimi is held with her parents and others as prisoners. Everyone attempts to escape and she tries to protect her father of DarkTyrannomon. Togemon fights against it, but the Digimon is not strong enough. As Mimi then begins to cry, a tear touches the Tag and the Crest glows and finally Togemon evolves to Lillymon.
Meaning: The tear ... stands for a drop that falls into the water. She is sincere and not out of intention or physical pain cried, but because of mental or emotional pain. This legend originated in the religion where a god cried out a green teardrop because he followed a heavenly war without being able to do something to stop the war. Out of all pain, he cried a single green shining tear, so pure and sincere that everyone suddenly stopped fighting.

 Crest of Knowledge

Owner: Izzy
Digivolution: Kabuterimon to MegaKabuterimon
Appearance: Episode 18, The Piximon Cometh; to a fountain in the desert Izzy is led by his tag to the crest
Activation: Episode 24, No Questions, please; Vademon promises Izzy the peace of mind, when he gives away his curiosity and his Crest. He agrees and Tentomon evolves back to Pabumon. When Izzy understands what's going on, he takes his stuff back and fights Vademon. Then Kabuterimon evolves to MegaKabuterimon.
Meaning: The circles in the water ... are the symbol of knowledge and prudence. If a drop falls into the water, it generates a small circle, which gets fastly bigger. Gradually more and more drops fall making little circles. Just like the circles in the water, also increases the knowledge, if a little idea comes to your mind.

 Crest of Hope

Owner: T.K.
Digivolution: Angemon to MagnaAngemon
Appearance: Episode 19, The Prisoners of the Pyramid, a wall blocks the path through a cave and turns into TK's Crest
Activation: Episode 52, Piedmon's last Jest; Piedmon has captured all DigiDestined except TK, Kari and Patamon. The three fall down because Piedmon cuts a rope they tried to climb up and so TK's Crest lit, Angemon evolves to MagnaAngemon and rescues the whole group.
Meaning: The shooting star ... stands in general for a special wish or hope that this is in fulfillment. If you were to see one shooting star, it is tradition to wish for something.

 Crest of Light

Owner: Kari
Digivolution: Gatomon to Angewomon
Appearance: Episode 37, Wizardmon's Gift; Wizardmon was in possession of the Crest after stealing it from Myotismon
Activation: Episode 37, Wizardmon's Gift; Myotismon wants to get Gatomon and Kari out of his way and attacks them. But Wizardmon throws himself between them and the attack in order to save both lives. Wizardmon itself dies. Kari wakes up and her cry makes her Crest glowing. Gatomon can now evolve to Angewomoni and beat Myotismon.
Meaning: The Lotos ... stands for peace, innocence and light. In addition, it symbolizes the love, as in Christianity is known. But the symbol originally comes from Buddhism. Both Buddha and other deities are always sitting on a lotus flower or lily flower. Also, the lamps in temples and other buildings have this form so that the light can reach the gods.
